Abstract

1,129,254. Magnetrons. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. 23 May, 1966 [25 May, 1965], No. 22897/66, Heading H1D. In a voltage-tunable magnetron comprising an electron injection region 46 formed between cathode 13 and control electrode 17 and an eletronic interaction region 45 formed between central electrode 18 and an interdigital anode circuit 22, the magnetic circuit comprises two permanent magnets 5, 6 designed to produce a field of greater intensity in the injection region 46 decreasing to a lower but uniform intensity in the interaction region 45, the magnet 5 being longer and of greater magnetomotive force than the magnet 6. The tube envelope 2 comprises a stack of conductive and ceramic discs and members 34<SP>1</SP>, 35<SP>1</SP> brazed across the ceramic end disc 12 provide connections to the cathode filament leads 14, 15. Insulating, sheets 42 are provided between the members 34<SP>1</SP>, 35<SP>1</SP> and the magnet 5 and between the electrode 18 and the magnet 6. The tube elements and the magnets are encased in epoxy resin potting material- 44 within a magnetic shield 7.
