Abstract
893,215. Hydraulic shock absorbers. HOESCH A.G. March 11, 1960, No. 8708/60. Class 108(3). In an adjustable hydraulic shock absorber an adjusting rod accessible from outside the cylinder is rotatable on ball bearings and projects into a hollow piston rod to vary the covering of damping passages. In one example an adjusting rod 10, Fig. 1, is rotatable through a rack and pinion 15, 16 in a housing 14 forming the connection for the hollow piston rod 6. The rod 10 is attached to an apertured disc 11 which is rotatable on ball bearings 12 within the piston 7 to vary the covering of passages 9 in the piston 7 and a cover plate 8. A valve plate 23 forms a compensating chamber in the end of the cylinder 1. In a modification the adjusting rod 10, Fig. 2, forms a metering pin and is rotatably mounted on bearings 26 in the upper end of the cylinder I and has a longitudinal groove 10<SP>1</SP> co-operating to restrict apertures 6<SP>1</SP> in the hollow piston rod 6. The groove 10<SP>1</SP> is narrowed towards the ends to vary the damping throughout the length of the stroke. Rotation of the rod by a lever 27 varies the covering of the holes 6<SP>1</SP>.
