Abstract
892,851. Latch handles; circlips. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 21, 1959 [Dec. 30, 1958], No. 41999/58. Classes 44 and 89(2). Door furniture comprises a rose-plate 12 and a handle 15, e.g. of nylon, having an integral boss 14 which is angularly movable within a bearing in the plate, and is retained in position by means of a washer 19; the end portion 16 of the boss remote from the handle is of non-circular cross-section and is provided at its extremity with two integral peripheral lips 17 which are so shaped that they can be inserted through a complementary non- circular hole in the washer but after insertion prevent withdrawal of the washer from the boss. The cross-section of the portion 16 of the boss 14 is, preferably rectangular, one pair of opposite sides thereof being formed with the lips 17 and the other pair of opposite sides having each formed therein an axially extending slot 16a, and the boss 14 has a bore of non-circular cross-section, preferably square, for the reception of a spindle 24 having a corresponding cross-section. To increase the resiliency of the portion 16 of the boss, the latter may be formed with a circumferential groove 18. The washer 19, Fig. 3 (not shown) has two abutment tongues which serve to limit angular movement of the handle 15 and another abutment tongue 22 which cooperates with a spring 23 for loading the handle. The slots 16a may be dispensed with and the lips 17 may extend on all sides of the end portion 16 of the boss 14.
