Abstract
892,793. Crimping threads and controlling tension therein. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., ERNEST. Aug. 9, 1960 [Aug. 25, 1959], No. 28980/59. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) Yarn is continuously crimped by successive passage through a positive input feeder, a heater, a false-twister and a positive output feeder which is automatically controllable, as regards yarn throughout speed relative to the input feeder responsive to the momentary length of the yarn path between the feeders, to tend to maintain such length constant. As shown, yarn 11 passes through nip rollers 12, 13, over a heater 14, through a false-twister 15, guides 21, 22 and tapered nip rollers 16, 17, to a hole in a suction pipe 18, which holds the yarn during thread-up and until normal twist conditions have developed in the running yarn, and/or to a take-up spool 19. Change in length of yarn between pairs of nip rollers causes or permits pivotal movement of lever 23 against or under the restoring action of a spring 25 to position correctively the nip point of the yarn along the rollers 16, 17.
