Abstract

892,037. Securing hubs on shafts. MARTINS, B. March 11, 1960 [May 26, 1959], No. 8651/60. Classes 80 (1) and 80 (2). A hub 10 is secured on a shaft 12 by an intermediate bush 14 split at 20 and provided with projections or thickened portions 22 engaged by the ends of segments 24, the other ends of which provide a gap for an axial wedge 38, which acts to force segments 24 against projections 22 to reduce the gap 20 and cause bush 14 to grip shaft 12 and at the same time cause the outer surfaces of segments 24 to grip the inner surface of bush 10. The segments 24 may be separate from member 14 (Fig. 1), or integral therewith (Fig. 6). In the latter construction the wedge 38 incorporates a key portion 54 between the bush and hub complementary to a key 52 between the bush and shaft. Wedge 38 is operated by a screw 66. Fig. 12 shows the invention applied to a belt pulley, the gap 30 between members 14, 24 being increased and the member 24 engaging the rim 80. The wedge 38 bears against the end face 84 of a radial projection 82, the provision of spokes 86 being optional.
