Abstract

890,595. Conveying furnace charges. COMPAGNIE DE PONT-A-MOUSSON. Feb. 8, 1960 [Feb. 24, 1959; Nov. 23, 1959], No. 4326/60. Class 51 (2). [Also in Group XXX] Apparatus for carrying pipes &c. through a heat treatment furnace F comprises a pair of carrier chains A having pivotally mounted, inverted U - shaped shoes 7 defining a plane carrier surface, and driving chains B with projections 13 engaging the pipes T resting on said chains A, the latter being driven by sprockets 1 from a motor 21. Chains B are driven intermittently by sprockets 11 from a motor 22, the drive including a wheel 25 with one or more teeth 26 engaging spaced lugs 27 on one of the sprockets. Chains A and B have rollers engaging tracks 5 and 17 respectively in the furnace hearth S. Movement of chains A in the direction f<SP>2</SP> causes pipes T in contact with projections 13 to rotate, and the intermittent movements of chains B in the direction #<SP>1</SP> advance said pipes through the furnace. The chains may be moved in the same direction. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the pipes &c. are disposed on pairs of loose rollers engaged by projections on the driving-chains B.
