853,626. Heat treating metal workpieces. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 25, 1957 [Nov. 28, 1956], No. 36645 /57. Class 72 A device for holding elongated workpieces during heating by high frequency current or by burners comprises a conveying mechanism having stops against which the workpieces are held by an initially tensioned, flexible thrust member. As shown, a disc 3 having a series of notches may be mounted on a turntable 2, the workpieces 1 being placed in the notches and held therein by the pressure of a belt 6 running round rotatable guides 8 and 9, the guide 9 being mounted on a resilient attachment 7. The notches may be formed by rotatably supported wheels which allow the workpiece to rotate. The belt may be fixed, or may be free to travel, or one of the guides may be driven to cause the belt to move at the same speed as, or a different speed from, the turntable. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown) the conveyer may be a chain, the workpieces being inserted into holes in the links thereof.
