Abstract

890,263. Electromagnetic relays. REYROLLE & CO. Ltd., A. Nov. 11, 1960 [Nov. 11, 1959], No. 38237/59. Class 38 (5). The contact-controlling member of a relay is biased to a normal rest position and an " antishock " body is mounted in the path of movement of the contact-controlling member close to its normal rest position and is of such a relative mass so as to prevent contact operation due to mechanical shock. As shown in Fig. 1, the member C is pivoted at C<SP>1</SP> and biased by a spring D to a normal rest position against a stop E. A highly flexible spring G is secured to the member C near its pivotal axis and the " anti-shock " body F is mounted thereon close to or in engagement with the end of the member C which engages the stop E. When the relay is energized an armature (not shown) applies a substantial force to the member C so that the body F moves with the member C and a contact A<SP>1</SP> engages a fixed contact A. If a mechanical shock is transmitted by the stop E to the member C, the kinetic energy transferred to the body F will be dissipated mainly against the action of the spring G. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 2) the body F is freely suspended by a wire or nylon thread G<SP>1</SP> and shock energy is dissipated against gravity. Fig. 4 shows a relay, including a coil J and contact spring M, in which the armature H is the contact-controlling member carrying the spring G and " anti-shock " body F.
