Abstract

889,837. Lighting fittings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 2, 1960 [Feb, 17, 1959], No. 5476/59. Class 75(4) A lamp mounting unit comprises a straight elongated member 11 of channel section incorporating on the outer side of its base a holder 14 for receiving the cap of an electric incandescent filament lamp 15 which holder is positioned so that a lamp inserted in it extends along the external side of the channel base, the channel member and holder shell being formed as a one-piece moulding of refractory material. The channel member, which is made of porcelain and glazed on at least the external surface, is open at both ends. Units may be mounted end to end to provide a continuous protective cover for the electric supply wires which enter and leave a circular box base by bushes 2, 3 or 4. A screw 16 secures the channel member to a boss 17 on the base. A fibre washer may be provided for the screw. A prismatic glass refractor encloses the lamp and an annular cover 5 holds the refractor in position on the base by clips 8. A gasket 6 seals the refractor and cover together, and a sealing strip 9 seals the gap between the cover and edge of the base. Raised studs 18 on the base prevent the unit from rotating.
