Abstract
889,693. Ships' ports. BURNESS, CORLETT & PARTNERS Ltd. Sept. 17, 1959 [Oct. 29, 1958], No. 34732/58. Class 113. [Also in Group XXX] An installation for loading and unloading a ship, comprises a door 3, Fig. 1, in the side 1 of the ship which may be lowered into a horizontal position, detached from its hinge 5 by removing pins 9, and moved up and down the side of the ship by cables 13, 14. Retractable rollers 11, mounted on shock absorbing guide means 10 engage the side of the ship and guide the door as it moves up and down. The two cables are wound on drums 19, 20 in such a manner that the door 3 remains horizontal. In a second embodiment, the pulleys which guide the lifting cables are mounted on a beam which slides horizontally out of the ship through the door opening so that the pulleys are vertically above the points of attachment of the cables to the door. In a further embodiment, the door 3, Fig. 3, is attached by pins 9 to a hinged member 29. The arm 29 carries pulleys 30, 31 round which cables 13, 14 pass. A cable 33 maintains the arm 29 horizontally. As before the bolts 9 are removed to allow the door 3 to be raised and lowered.
