Abstract
758,422. Door-operating apparatus; fastenings. INTERNATIONAL MACGREGOR ORGANIZATION I.M.G.O. Sept. 23, 1954 [Sept. 25, 1953], No. 27564/54. Classes 44 and 65 (1). A large aperture, such as that of a ship's hold or an aircraft storage pit, is closed by an assembly of panels, of which some at least slide or roll away from the aperture on inclined ways so that they open by gravity when released, winches or the like being provided for the closing movement. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 the opening is closed by four panels 3 ... 6, the larger ones 3, 4 moving away from one another and the smaller ones 5, 6 moving away from the sides of the former. The panels are released in sequence for opening. Door-operating apparatus.-The panel 4, Fig. 3, is mounted on rollers 8 running on inclined tracks 7 extending into a housing for the panel in the open position; auxiliary ramps 10 provide for rapid initial lowering of the outer edge of the panel. A cable 22 attached to the outer edge of the panel is carried over a pulley to a hand-winch 23 whereby the panel can be drawn to the closed position. In a modified arrangement the small panels 5, 6 (Fig. 2) may be mounted on pivots so as to swing upwardly, counterweights being provided and the winch cables being attached to arms on the panels. Fastenings.-The panel 4 is held closed by hooks 17, Figs. 2 and 3, pivoted to it and engaging fixed stops 16; these hooks may be lifted, to allow the panel to open, by a lever 19 actuated by a hanging cord. When the panel starts to move, a part 9 (Fig. 3) thereon engages cranks 26 connected by rods to other cranks 30 which lift hooks 32 securing the panels 5, 6. These hooks are rigid with shafts carrying bars 321. Fig. 2, acting as keepers for weighted hooks 36 which hold the panel 3. The panels are thus released in sequence for opening, and have to be closed in the same sequence.
