Hopper 1 is discharged by a scraper 7 reciprocated by means of rod 9 of a rotating disc, driven by a motor. The amplitude of the stroke of the scraper is varied by the position of attachment of rod 9 to the disc, and the speed of reciprocation is varied by the gear-change of the motor. There may be a plurality of scrapers, which may take the form of chains.
