Abstract

733,218. Magnetic separators. RAPID MAGNETIC MACHINES, Ltd., and LANE, W. B. March 30, 1954 [Feb. 27, 1953], No. 5498/53. Class 117. A machine for the magnetic separation of seeds comprises a frame carrying one or more continuously driven open trough conveyers 14 with helical blades to carry the seeds along the trough. Seed is delivered to the trough from a hopper 16 and sprayed with water from a nozzle 19. Finely divided magnetic powder from a hopper 20 is blown onto the seed by compressed air from a pipe 22. The mixture is fed onto a continuously driven magnetic separating drum 31 containing permanent or electromagnets having rubber retaining rings 32 to prevent the seed spreading axially. Weed seeds having a rough surface retain the magnetic powder and adhere to the drum from which they are removed by a brush.
