Abstract

889,367. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 5, 1960 [Aug. 7, 1959], No. 27077/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXIX] In a relay the electromagnet assembly and a contact spring associated with a pair of contact pins are mounted as separate items on a printedcircuit board providing electrical connections to the electromagnet and contacts and the magnet axis is parallel to the plane of the printedcircuit board. The magnet assembly comprising a coil 3, core 4, armature 5 and return spring 13 is mounted on the printed-circuit board 1 by lugs 14, 17 passing through elongated holes 15, 18 and soldered to metallic portions on the other side of the board 1, the lugs 17 and their associated metallic portions forming the coil connections. The armature is pivoted at 5 and has an extension 7 which engages in an aperture in a card 11 located in a slot 12 in the board 1. The spring 13 also engages in a hole in the card 11 to urge the armature toward a back-stop 8 on the core 3. Two contact springs 10A, 10B, which may be wires or strips, pass through the board 1 and are soldered to printed-circuit connections 2. Each spring 10A, 10B passes through a slot in the card 11 so as to be biased by the spring 13 against one of its corresponding pair of fixed contact pins 9A, 9B secured to the printed-circuit board. A number of such relays on a common board may be connected in coordinate array (Group XXXIX). Specifications 800,064 and 817,428 are referred to.
