Class 112 [Also in Group XIV] A sewing machine stand comprises a table, a pair of frames hinged about opposite edges of the table and movable from a raised position in which they serve as carrying handles and in which the table may rest on a horizontal surface, to a lowered and table-supporting position, and means to lock the frames in the lowered position. A table 1 is provided with a well 7 adapted to receive the base of a sewing machine. Connected to opposite edges of the table by hinges 5 are bars 11 from which project transversely rods 9 telescopically received with the parallel limbs of U-shaped frames 14. When the latter are raised, their inwardly-curved upper ends are positioned sufficiently close to one another to serve as carrying handles. In their lowered and extended position, shown in broken lines, the frames serve as supports, and are provided with rubber studs 29 to contact the floor. Each frame is provided with a brace member 19 pivoted at one end to one of the limbs of the frame and formed at its other end with a curved portion 21 adapted to engage the opposite limb of the other frame to lock the frames in the lowered position. The table is provided at one end with a hinged flap 31 which, when lowered, forms an extension thereto. The frames when raised can support a dust-excluding fabric cover.
