Abstract
888,956. Glass-melting furnaces. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 2, 1958 [June 4, 1957], No. 17536/58. Class 51 (2). [Also in Group XXIII] A glass-melting furnace comprising a main chamber 1, provided with burners to heat the surface of the glass, and an auxiliary chamber 3, with an outlet 5 and heating electrodes 6, 7, to keep the glass more liquid, has a weir 4 between the two chambers so that the top layer a of degraded glass can flow out of the main chamber and leave through outlet 5. The bottom of chamber 3 is preferably at a higher level than that of chamber 1.
