Liquid petrol in the manifold 1 passes down a drain tube 5 into a. container 6. When the engine is running suction is created in the return tubes 10 and/or 10<SP>1</SP> so that fuel vapour present in the container 6 is drawn into the manifold 1. A single vapour return tube may be employed having a central connection with the manifold 1 or branched return tubing may be employed as indicated in dotted lines. More than one orifice or jet 13 may be provided. If desired the jet size may be variable by an adjustable needle valve member (not shown). The container should be preferably disposed closely adjacent the engine exhaust manifold so as to be heated thereby. Cowling means may be provided to direct heated air about the container or the latter may be jacketed for heating by water or the like from the engine cooling system or electrical heating means may be provided. The container 6 may be provided with a removable filler cap or plug for introducing upper cylinder lubricant into it. The device may be employed for introducing upper cylinder lubricant or similar preparations into the engine cylinder for cleaning or other purposes.
