Abstract
888,653. Tanks. GAUTHRON, R. Nov. 14, 1960 [Nov. 14, 1959], No. 39003/60. Class 69 (1). A method of constructing an elevated reservoir consists in erecting a cylindrical tower 1, connecting the top of an annular tank assembly 2 to the top of the tower, filling the tank with water to cause a downward shift of its lower end and connecting the lower end whilst shifted to a lower circumference of the tower so that only the top connection is stressed when the tank is full. The conical walls 2a and 2b of the tank are joined by welding both to a waisted ring 4x, 4y, 4z which is filled with concrete 5 covered by a strip 6 of metal, also welded to the walls. The walls may be assembled around the base of the tower 1 and hoisted into position, using the ring 7 on the strip 6. The top and bottom of the top and bottom walls 2a and 2b respectively mate with and are welded in due succession to flat-strips 3a (Fig. 4, not shown), and 3b set in the concrete of the tower at an appropriate angle. The bottom of the wall 2b connects with a cylindrical inner wall 9 which is strengthened by a girder 10, grouted at 11 and sealed with bitumen at 12 to form a water-tight joint with the tower wall. A concrete ring 13 with a cover strip 14 is cast in the bottom joint and the tank surfaces coated with anti-corrosive paint.
