Abstract

A cylindrical metal can (1) is used as a container for pressurized liquids such as beer. The bottom of the can (5) which is basically flat, is joined to the cylindrical container wall (1) by a short tapered or rounded corner (3). In order to reinforce the flat container base (5), two semi-circular ribs (4) are pressed into it. The ribs are concentric with the can axis and they extend outwards so that they provide the standing face for the can. The height of the reinforcing ribs (AT) is about ten times the metal thickness (S) of the can.
