Abstract
3 : 5-Dioxopyrazolidine derivatives of the general formula p <FORM:0888578/IV (b)/1> (wherein R1 and R2 represent alkyl or aryl groups, or one but not both may represent hydrogen, R3 represents hydrogen or a C1-6 alkyl group, and R4 a C1-6 alkyl group) are manufactured by condensing a mono- or disubstituted malonic acid monoester monohydrazide of the general formula <FORM:0888578/IV (b)/2> (wherein R5 represents an alkoxy group) with a 4-piperidone of the general formula <FORM:0888578/IV (b)/3> reducing the resulting hydrazone, and cyclizing the hydrazide so formed by heating it to about 180 DEG C.-250 DEG C. in the atmosphere of an inert gas or in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate. Substituted malonic acid ester-monohydrazides of formula II are obtainable by condensing a reactive derivative (e.g. chloride-ester or amideester) of the appropriate substituted malonic acid with hydrazine or with a monoalkylated hydrazine in which the free NH2 group may be protected by a cleavable group.
