Abstract

888,500. Door operating appliances for dryers. SMITH CO., T. L. June 21, 1960 [April 28, 1960], No. 21662/60. Class 65(1). A laundry dryer has a housing 10: pivotally mounted. ona base 12: at 14 and, a door 20 carried by a lever 26 pivotallyfixedto the housing at 28 and to the door at 30. Fixed to the lever 26 on either side of the pivot 28 are collars 40, 42 which slide on the rods 32, 34, pivoted to the base at 36, 38. If the housing is tilted backwards the collar 40 slides along the rod until it reaches the stop 44 and then it causes the lever 26 to rotate, moving the door 20 from the opening 18; if the housing is tilted forward the collar 42 slides until it abuts the stop 46 when it causes the lever 26 to rotate again moving the door from the opening. A stabilizing link 30 guides the door so that it does not foul the housing. The spring loaded stop assembly 56 causes the door to start closing as the housing is returned to the upright position. The movement of the housing may be. brought about by pneumatic cylinders.
