[Also in Group XIV] In an ironing board 10 supported on legs 11 12 which are arranged like an X and pivoted, near their mid-points, one leg (11) being pivotally connected at its upper end to the underside of the ironing surface and the other leg (12) being slidably constrained at its upper end in a guide on the underside of the ironing surface, the guide comprises a pair of parallel slots 22 or grooves and the leg 12 is secured to a transverse tube 21 inside which is an axially movable rod (not shown) having portions of reduced diameter capable of sliding along the slots 22 and enlarged portions which by axial movement can be engaged in enlarged holes 24 formed in the slots 22 to lock the leg 12 in position. The rod is preferably spring loaded so as to keep it in the locking position. Specifications 769,488, 769,489 and 769,491, [all in Group VIII], are referred to.
