A cabinet for assembling parts of gyroscopes or other instruments in a dust-free atmosphere comprises a back wall having a concavely curved inner face, an inlet for air at or near the top of and at the back of the cabinet, a passageway leading air to said inlet and incorporating an air filter and an opening or openings in the front of the cabinet at or near the bottom thereof through which the hands of the operator may be introduced into the cabinet. A passageway for the air is formed by two C- shaped, back walls 10, 11 of the cabinet, an air-intake opening 15 being provided in the lower part. In the cavity between the walls 10, 11 is located a transverse partition 18 which is associated with a motor driven fan 2 and heater 3 which produce flow of air through the hollow back wall and inlet opening 23 in the cabinet. A filter 21 is disposed between two apertured partitions 22 between the walls 10, 11. A light compartment 28 associated with the upper wall of the cabinet has a transparent window 26 through which light is directed downwardly on to articles within the cabinet. transparent panel 40 is hinged at 33 to the forward portion of the walls 10, 11. In a modification Figs. 8, 10, the cabinet has two compartments separated by a vertical partition wall 46. The outer C-shaped wall 11 extends below and forwardly of the inner wall 10, the forward end of wall 11 being joined to the wall 10 by a horizontal working platform 47. In the right hand compartment a plate 62 having an orifice 63 therein extends downwardly from the rear edge of the working platform and meets the outer wall 11. Air is sucked through an opening 52 in the right hand end wall of the cabinet and through the orifice 63 in the plate 62 to the inlet 49 of a motor driven fan 48 positioned in the right hand compartment beneath the platform 47. The outlet of the fan engages an opening in the partition wall 46, the air from both sources blown into the left hand compartment beneath the platform, passes through the-filter 21 into the space between the inner and outer C-shaped walls 10, 11 and through the opening 23 into the left hand compartment above the platform 47. The front wall may be replaced by a detachable panel having openings which are associated with gloves. The lower part of the front wall may be replaced by a wall without openings.
