Abstract

887,621. Clotheshorses. GUNNER, W. G., and GUNNER, F. A. April 13, 1960 [April 20, 1959], No. 13408/59. Class 52(5) A collapsible clotheshorse comprises articulated grid-like racks which fold flat for storage and open out to form a rigid box-like frame with at least one grid articulated to and extending horizontally outwards from one edge of the frame as a projecting wing. As shown, end grids 11, 14 and legs 4, 5, 6, 7 are hinged on a base grid 1, the legs being retained in closed and open splayed positions by a spring toggle. A top grid 18, having hinged wing grids 26, 34 is hinged by double pivots 40 to the grid 14 and to the wing grid 34 and is latched to the grid 11 by a removable pin 32 engaging coincident apertures in plate 31, the side member of grid 18, a projection 25 on the plate 24 which enters the slot 23, and a block 21. A plate 29 on each side wing has a projection 30 passing between the plate 31 and the side member of the grid 18 for engagement by the pin 32 to maintain the wings in raised position. In collapsing, the grid 26 folds beneath the grid 18 which folds on top of the grids 34 and 14, the grid 11 and then the grid 14 being folded on top of the base grid 1. The grids 11 and 14 and the legs fold into respective planes by virtue of the grid 11 and the legs 6, 7 being mounted on blocks 8. In a modification two cross pieces pivoted on the legs 4, 5 can be rotated outwards to support the clotheshorse over a bath.
