Abstract

Diphenylamines are prepared by decarboxylating diphenylamine-2-carboxylic acids by heating to 150 DEG C.-250 DEG C. in the presence of aniline, an aniline derivative or a mixture thereof as solvent or flux. The solvent may be, for example, an alkyl, alkoxy or chloro aniline or a diphenylamine, particularly the diphenylamine to be obtained by the decarboxylation. Examples describe the preparation of phenyl, methoxy, ethoxy and chloro diphenylamines and of chloromethoxy and ethoxy-diphenylamine.
