Procedure for the preparation of N-substituted indoles, characterized in that an indole is treated in sulfoxidedimethyl or a dipolar, aprotic solvent, with a tertiary acid amide group, such as dimethylformamide or dimethylacetamide with a base and then reacted with a compound of the formula R-X in which X is a nucleofuge group and R means an aralkyl radical or an optionally substituted alkyl or alkenyl radical, or it is allowed to react with an alkene, which carries an electron extracting substituent on the double bond, or with an epoxide.
