Abstract

886,465. Supporting tubes. UNITED-CARR FASTENER CORPORATION. Feb. 24, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 6545/60. Class 99(2). A fastening device for attaching a tube 7, rod or wire to a support panel 6 and formed from a single piece of metal comprises a support engaging arm portion 1 and an attaching arm portion 2, having a rivet portion 5, extending from opposite ends of a clamping portion 3. In use the tube, rod or wire is inserted into the clamping portion 3, the device is bent so that the portion 2 overlies the portion 1 to clamp the latter to the support 6 and the rivet portion 5 is inserted in an aperture 8 in the support and expanded by a driving tool 13 to secure the device thereto. The rivet portion 5 is preferably formed from a ribbon of stock taken from portions 2, 3 and 1 which is formed into a W-shaped portion, one end 10 of which is integral with the portion 2 and the other end 11 is T-shaped. The latter overlaps the portion 2 and is prevented from moving during riveting by shoulder portions 16 formed on portion 2. The clamping portion 3 may be provided with cushioning means 4.
