A device for guiding non-rotating work 7 in a lathe comprises pairs of diametrically opposed members, e.g. rollers, 11a, 11b and 11c, lid d mounted in radially slidable members 20 bearing on cams 25a, 25b and 26a, 26b carried by rotatable parts 25, 26 respectively, in a housing 24. Each part 25, 26 has an arm 27 connected by a link 28 to a rod 29 urged by a spring 31 in the direction of arrow 33. Each rod and spring is housed in a cylinder 30 adjustable in a support 36 by a screwed sleeve 35 to adjust its associated pair of rollers against the work. As the work is moved through the device, the rollers may move radially to accommodate variations by rotating parts 25, 26 against the springs.
