Abstract
886,137. Soot-blowers. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Feb. 3, 1961 [Feb. 9, 1960], No. 4534/60. Class 99(2). In a fluid heater cleaner having a nozzle tube 1, or lance, movable to advance the tube from and withdraw the tube to a retracted position and arranged during such movement to discharge cleaning fluid, the nozzle tube is provided at the forward end thereof with nozzle means 5 adapted when cleaning fluid is supplied to the tube to effect a cleaning fluid discharge that exerts a weight-supporting up-thrust. As shown, one end of the tube 1 is non-rotatably supported by a motor-driven carriage 7 which runs on a horizontal beam 12, and the tube is also supported adjacent the boiler wall 3 by roller 37. A valve 20 controls the supply of cleaning fluid to a tube 21 telescopically arranged with respect to the nozzle tube. The nozzle head 5, Figs. 3 and 4, is provided with nozzles 6A . . . 6H each comprising a cylinder extending radially inwards of the head and arranged in pairs asymmetrically disposed on opposite sides of a vertical plane through the nozzle tube axis. In order to increase the area of heat exchanger surface which the cleaner is able to clean, the nozzle tube is rocked about the longitudinal axis thereof by a roller 68, Fig. 8, carried by the tube engaging, on forward and rearward movement of the tube, adjustable, inclined ramps 64, 67, the roller bearing means 37 being arranged to allow angular movement of the nozzle tube. Specification 636,052 is referred to.
