Abstract
971,618. Soot-blowers. DIAMOND POWER SPECIALTY CORPORATION. Sept. 27, 1963 [Oct. 22, 1962], No. 38137/63. Heading F2N. A long travel sootblower movable to and from retracted and projected positions has guide means 10 capable of effecting a controlled vertical displacement of the rear end of the lance tube 22, as the latter is moved between a retracted and projected position, in an amount so as to compensate for the vertical displacement of the nozzle end portion of the lance tube as occasioned by lance tube deflection providing for a substantially linear path of travel of the nozzle end of the tube between said positions. As shown, the guide rail 10 is contoured to provide a substantially linear path of travel for the nozzle end of the lance tube and consists in a straight section W corresponding to a reference line 70, and sections Y and Z which, respectively, are inclined arcuately downwardly and upwardly. Additionally, the height of the forward roller support 24 for the lance tube and boiler wall port 14 relative to the line 70 may be varied. The rear end of the lance tube is supported by a carriage 16 movable along the guide rail 10 by a reversible electric, air or hydraulic motor 58 coupled to a gear-box 60 drivingly connected by a shaft 62 extending along the rail to the carriage; alternatively, the motor is installed directly on the carriage or mounted adjacent a cleaning fluid, i.e. air or steam, supply valve 52 opened and closed upon movement of the carriage to the projected or retracted positions of the lance tube. The latter is in telescopic relation with a feed tube 50 connected to the valve. To prevent sagging of the lance tube in the retracted position thereof there is an intermediate roller support 26 which is moved by the carriage towards and away from the support 24. The feed tube 50 is also provided with a movable, sag-preventing, roller support 56.
