Abstract
1,022,498. Soot - blowers. DIAMOND POWER SPECIALTY CORPORATION. April 22, 1964 [June 5, 1963], No. 16635/64. Heading F2N. In a soot-blower of the kind which includes a feed tube for supplying high pressure blowing medium to a lance tube 24 formed with nozzles, the feed tube comprises a number of telescopically mounted sections 84, 86 adapted to extend and contract respectively during projecting and retracting movements of the lance tube. The lance tube 24 consists of a number of sections of progressively decreasing diameter and is rotatably supported by a carriage 18 movable on a track 20 carried by a rail 10. The carriage is moved longitudinally by means of a rack and pinion, and the lance tube is simultaneously rotated by a reversible electric, pneumatic or hydraulic motor mounted at the forward end of the guide rail 10, or on the carriage. The lance tube and feed tube respectively are supported by roller bracket at the forward end of the lance tube and a trolley 92, and the cleaning fluid supply valve 90 is actuated by the carriage to open or close at the commencement of the projecting movement or end of the retracting movement of the lance tube. A swirl or turbulence is imparted to the cleaning fluid by vanes located in the feed and lance tubes; cooling of the lance tube is also effective.
