Abstract
1429831 Producing ampoules H J DICHTER 3 July 1973 [7 July 1972] 31625/73 Heading C1M In a method of producing ampoules from a glass tube by drawing the tube into a thin neck located at a distance of one ampoule body from one end of the tube, the neck being twice the length of an ampoule neck, dividing the neck in the middle thereby producing one ampoule and finally at a distance of one ampoule body from the neck melting off a second ampoule, the portion of the neck where division is to be effected is cooled during the drawing thereof to produce a funnel-shaped end to each neck after division. As shown, the glass tube 11 is held in upper and lower rotating chucks 13, 14 and is heated by upper and lower burners 29, 31, a blowing nozzle 30 for directing cooling air on to the tube being located between the burners. The burners and blowing nozzle are mounted on an arm 19 pivoted to a second, swingable arm 21, the arm 19 being provided at its free end with rollers 24 which may be biased towards the upper chuck 13. The burners and blowing nozzle can be raised and lowered jointly with the lower chuck.
