Abstract

An aqueous chemical polishing solution for use upon zinc-base alloys comprises 0,15 oz./gallon of one or more of acetic acid, sodium acetate, ammonium acetate, lead acetate and trichloroacetic acid, 0,05 oz./gallon of one or more of sodium fluoride, potassium fluoride, ammonium fluoride, sodium bifluoride and lead fluoborate, and one or more of 2% hydrofluoric acid, 2% sulphuric acid, 2% hydrochloric acid and 1% citric acid. The preferred solution contains acetic acid, sodium fluoride or bi-fluoride, and hydrofluoric acid. A good finish is obtained on zinc-base alloys containing not more than 4% aluminium and 0,2% copper.
