[Also in Groups XIII and XXVII] A blower having a cylindrical bladed rotor 3, Fig. 1, and guide means 9a, 9b coacting therewith to guide air twice through the rotor blades substantially transversely to the rotor axis, passes air through a heat exchange block 1 having end faces 14, 15 the projections of which on to any plane containing the rotor axis form a pair of rectangles each having a pair of sides substantially co-linear with the rotor ends as projected on to that plane. Preferably, the members 3, 9a, 9b set up a vortex V. The members 9a, 9b may be replaced by a guide body or bodies inside the rotor 3. There are guide vanes 11 and block divisions 16. Throttling means are provided in the form of perforated plates 17 relatively movable under thermostatic control. In a modification applicable to a motor vehicle and having an almost completely cylindrical block, air leaving the block can be used to heat the vehicle interior. Fig. 3 shows two blocks 30a, 30b through which air is drawn by a rotor 32, there being a central guide body 33, vanes 38, 34 and walls 35, 36. Fig. 4 shows a rotor 43 which blows or sucks air through a block 40 according as guide bodies 44 are in the full or broken line positions. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the rotor is mounted on a vertical shaft transmitting motion to an I.C. engine overhead cam-shaft and blows air through superposed oil and water coolant blocks to be delivered as thrust if the engine is that of a vehicle. Fig. 7 shows four two-part rotors 60 delivering air through a block 63 having extension vanes 65. Specifications 876,611, 876,612, 876,613 and 876,615 also are referred to.
