Abstract

The invention comprises: compounds of the general formula <FORM:0884439/IV (b)/1> (wherein the symbols R represent chlorine or bromine substituents which may be the same or different); the preparation thereof by reacting a compound of the general formula A-R1 with an amine B-NH2 (wherein A represents the radical <FORM:0884439/IV (b)/2> and B represents a methyl group, or vice versa, and R1 represents a radical -N=C=O, -NH-COCl, -NH-COOR11 (where R11 is an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl group) or -NH-CO-R111 (where R111 is an amino or acylamino group), or, when A is CH3, R1 represents <FORM:0884439/IV (b)/3> , or by reacting a thiourea of the general formula <FORM:0884439/IV (b)/4> with an oxidising agent, or (when the R substituents are in the ortho and para positions) reacting N-methyl-N1-phenylurea or a 2- or 4- monohalo derivative thereof with a halogenating agent; and pharmaceutical compositions containing the products (see Group VI).ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions, useful as antipyretics and analgesics, contain one or more compounds of the general formula <FORM:0884439/VI/1> (wherein the symbols R represent chlorine or bromine substituents which may be the same or different) together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. They may take the form of tablets, capsules, dragees or suppositories.
