Procedure for the preparation of new azo compounds of the formula **(See formula)** in which U stands for a halogen atom (in particular a chlorine or bromine atom); X signifies a nitro, acylamine or sulfonic acid group, a halogen atom (in particular a chlorine atom) or, above all, a hydrogen atom; one of the Y signifies a hydrogen atom, while the other signifies a sulfonic acid group; R stands for an aliphatic or, preferably, aromatic radical (in particular a benzene radical) with at most 10 carbon atoms, which may contain as substituents only halogen atoms, alkyl groups or in particular, hydrosolubilizing groups; and Z stands for a fiber-reactive substituent, preferably linked by means of an amine group, characterized by reacting compounds of the formula **(See formula)** in which U, X and Y have the meaning already stated, with amines of the formula H2N-R-V (3), in which R has the same meaning as before and V stands for an amine group, a group condensable with compounds containing fibroreactive radicals or a changeable atom, and condensing the obtained product with compounds containing a fibroreactive radical, or, optionally, reacting said compounds of formula (2) with compounds of formula H2H-R-Z (4) in which Z has the meaning that has been attributed in the explanation of formula (1), to directly form the compounds of formula (1).
