Abstract
883,914. Electromagnets. COMPAGNIE DES MACHINES BULL. May 25, 1959 [June 2, 1958], No. 17769/59. Class 35. [Also in Group XVI] The striker MT of a high-speed printing- machine is actuated and rapidly withdrawn to prevent smudging of the character formed on tape F by the rotation of the character wheel R, by using a polarized electromagnet and energizing its operating coil E with the discharge current and subsequent oscillation of a condenser C. As shown, the condenser which is charged through a resistance R from the H.T. supply, is discharged to operate the hammer by a thyratron TD whose control grid GC receives a timed impulse at L. The reverse oscillation current which serves to rapidly withdraw the hammer passes through a rectifier DD. Subsequent oscillations are cut off by the thyratron. The thyratron may be replaced by some other discharge tube or a transistor. The electromagnet may be of the axially moving-coil type, but in the form shown consists of a reed 12 between polarizing magnets and embraced by the energizing coil E.
