883,883. Automatic frequency control systems; Diplex radio signalling. NIPPON ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 22, 1960 [April 14, 1959], No. 10098/60. Class 40(5). In a superheterodyne television receiver comprising local oscillator 4 and mixer 3 supplying an intermediate frequency amplifier 5, the beat frequency between the sound and vision carirers, e.g. 4.5 mc./s. frequency modulated by the sound signals is selected by amplifier 9 from the output of detector 6 and applied to a frequency multiplier 13 giving an output carrier frequency equal to the sound intermediate carrier frequency, e.g. 22.5 mc./s., and this output is supplied together with the sound intermediate frequency signal to a mixer 15 whose resulting low frequency output is supplied to a reactance valve 12 to stabilize the frequency of local oscillator 4, the intercarrier frequency of 4.5 mc./s. thereby acting as a reference frequency for oscillator 4.
