Abstract
643,694. Diplex radio signalling. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 26, 1948, No. 14224. [Class 40 (v)] In a television receiving system, the carrier wave for the vision signals is used to heterodyne the incoming sound-modulated carrier wave. The vision and sound modulated carriers are passed through an H.F. amplifier 3 and are fed to two band-pass filters 5, 6, the filter 5 passing only the vision-modulated carrier and the filter 6 passing only the sound modulated carrier. The vision modulated carrier is then fed to a detector 13 and display tube 15, and also through a filter or limiter 16 serving to remove any modulation so that a pure carrier wave is fed to a mixer 18, where it is used to heterodyne the incoming sound modulated carrier from the filter 6. The sound signal is then fed to a reproducing device 23 through a detector and A.F. amplifier 21. In the case of a frequency modulated sound carrier the band-pass filter 5 is rendered unnecessary (Fig. 2, not shown), and a discriminator is inserted between the mixer 18 and amplifier 21.
