Abstract
472,586. Wireless signalling. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 19, 1937, No. 8203. Convention date, July 31, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] A switching circuit responsive to received carrier waves to render operative the receiver output circuit comprises separate means for suppressing the effect of slow and fast variations in static whilst maintaining the circuit at maximum sensitivity to carrier waves for the amount of static present. The switching circuit 10 comprises an amplifier 11 with an associated A.V.C. system F1, 13, the filter F1 of which excludes the carrier and side-band frequencies to render the system responsive to the average noise amplitude only. The amplifier 11 feeds two filters F2, F3 followed by detectors 15. The filters F2, F3 both pass static peaks to produce detector outputs which are opposed and balance out, while only the filter F2 passes the carrier frequency to produce a control potential which is used to render operative the output of the receiver 5 ... 9 at the point 16 and disable the device 4<1> of the associated transmitter 1<1>, 2<1>. The device 4<1> is provided to connect the transmitting aerial TAE to the transmitter at the point 3<1> and to disable the switching means 10 on its output side when line signals from the hybrid connection H2 are applied to the transmitter. Circuit details of the detector system 15, the amplifier 11 and the detector 13 are described, Figs. 2, 3 and 4 (not shown).
