A frequency-modulation receiver includes a frequency-selective amplifier 8, i.e. tuned to a supersonic frequency which is back-coupled over a path 12 so as to be self-oscillatory. The amplifier 8 is also connected in a countercoupling path comprising phase-shifter 11 modulating the local oscillator 4 of the receiver and thence the mixer 3, I.F. amplifier 5 and discriminator 6 so that when a signal is received and the receiver correctly tuned self-oscillator of amplifier 8 is inhibited. The oscillations from this amplifier are applied to means 9 muting the receiver. Specification 988,507 is referred to.
