Abstract
1,118,903. Frequency modulation. I. A. GUSYATINSKY, and J. N. MARGOLlN. 3 March, 1966, No. 9390/66. Heading H3R. A frequency modulated receiver in which the frequency deviation is reduced by negative feedback before being applied to a narrow band i.f. stage 6 includes an outer feedback loop providing the negative feedback, and an inner loop providing positive feedback to restore the initial frequency deviation. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the i.f. signal from amplifier 4 is fed to a mixer 5 together with a negative feedback signal to effect the frequency deviation reduction, and after passing through the narrow band amplifier 6 it is fed to a further mixer 7 together with a positive feedback signal to restore the original frequency deviation. The resulting signal, which has a lower threshold level, is then demodulated by a disciminator 9. The feedback signals fed to the mixers 5, 7 are produced by mixing the output from mixer 7 with that from a fixed frequency oscillator 13, in a further mixer 12. In a first modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the feedback signals are produced by modulating an oscillator (11) with the output from the discriminator (9). In a second modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the feed back signal is produced 'in the same manner as in Fig. 2, and demodulation is effected by a phase-sensitive detector (14), the reference signal for which is derived from the oscillator (13).
