883,827. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. LAURENCE, SCOTT & ELECTROMOTORS Ltd., and MOSSAY, P. R. Jan. 28, 1959 [Jan. 28, 1958], No. 2866/58. Class 35. [Also in Group XXII] In an electric motor having a cooling jacket the stator 1 is provided with channels 13, which may zig-zag, meander or wind helically around the stator. Between the stator and the motor casing 10 are inserted two thin layers of non-corrosive material such as polythene or stainless steel, about 0.02 inch thick. Hydraulic pressure is applied between the layers so that one layer conforms to the stator surface and channels 13, thus forming coolant channels, and the other conforms to the motor casing. Alternatively the channels may be formed in the motor casing 10, or in both the casing and the stator. A cooling jacket may be similarly inserted between the rotor and the shaft (Fig. 14, not shown).
