883,686. Mounting electric motors. ELECTROLUX Ltd. March 26, 1959 [April 1, 1958], No. 10572/69. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXII] The motor-fan unit of a vacuum cleaner is resiliently mounted near its centre of gravity by an annular resilient ring 30 comprising inner and outer rims 31, 32 reinforced (in the form shown) by metal rings 33, 34 respectively and joined by a web 35 which is prestressed in tension. The ring is of elastomeric material, e.g. natural or synthetic rubber and is arranged to have a natural frequency of vibration lower than that of any disturbing force, e.g. the A.C. mains. The radial tension in the web 35 may be produced by gripping the inner and outer rims between suitable clamping rings, or the rims may have grooves engaged by inner and outer rigid rings. But in the form shown, the stress is produced by moulding the rubber round the metal rings 33, 34 and allowing it to shrink on curing. The inner rim is clamped in an annular channelled seat (not shown) around the motor-fan unit, while the outer rim is secured by screws (not shown) passing through bosses 36 to a mounting ring 49 projecting inwardly from the vacuum-cleaner body. Rubber ribs 40, 41 provide a cushion between the ring 49 and the outer rim.
