Abstract
883,288. Felt-tensioning devices. DORRIES A.G., O. April 13, 1960 [April 18, 1959], No. 13240/60. Class 96. In a felt-tensioning device for paper-making machines, a felt 1 is tensioned by a roller 15 mounted on a carriage 13 which is moved along slides 12 by chains or cables 17 having fixed ends 19, 20 and passing around guide pulleys 11 which are rotatably fixed to fork bearings 9 at the ends of a through piston-rod 2 of a fluid-operable piston 3 operating within a cylinder 5. Fluid pressure supplied to one or other of the cylinder heads 6 displaces the pulleys 11 and the tensioning roller 15 from a position A to E for example, i.e. through twice the distance of the piston stroke. Tension of the cables 17 may be adjusted by means of the screw-threaded eyes 19. In an embodiment, four-fold movement relative to the piston stroke is obtained by mounting the carriage 13 on slides located on a further carriage which has pulleys over its ends around which the cables are passed and which further carriage is itself mounted on the guides 12. Two tensioning devices may be mounted one on each side of a paper-making machine at least two corresponding guide pulleys in the two devices being mounted on a common shaft so as to be rotatable one with the other and ensure that the felt-tensioning roller is only movable in a direction parallel to its own axis. The device(s) may be controlled from a central station.
