Abstract

1,142,694. Bearings. FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT Ltd., and K. C. TECKIENBOROUGH. 9 Oct., 1967 [26 Sept., 1966], No. 42918/66. Heading F2A. A rectilinear-motion bearing is provided with pressurized-air between the relatively movable parts, has one of said parts moved by means of pressurized-air, and has the movable part guided along a predetermined path. In an embodiment a frame having sides 11 is supported by guideways 10 and carries a pattern and/or a moulding box (not shown). Each side 11 is provided with a bore 12 which connects with bores 35 in sides 36 of the frame; and is provided with a longitudinally extending rebate 13, the latter being connected to the bore 12 by means of ports 30. One of the bores 12 is connected, by means of two ports 16, to a double-acting jack 14, the cylinder 15 of which is integral with a side 11 of the frame. The cylinder 15 contains a piston formed by a gland 18 and a piston-rod formed by a tube 17. The cylinder 15 comprises ports 19 and 20 and the piston-rod comprises ports 17a and 17b, the latter being slidingly supported by glands 21 and 22 mounted at the ends of the cylinder 15. The tube 17 is attached to the stationary part at 28, 28 so as to allow a vertical displacement of the jack 14 when pressurized air is supplied between the frame and the guideways 10. The frame is guided by means of the tube 17 and also by means of members 25 and 26 which also serve to reduce the escape of pressurized air. In use pressurized air is passed through the tube 17 and through an aperture 23 therein to either the part 19 or the part 20 of the cylinder 15, according to the direction of movement required and is passed through non-return valves 37 into the rebates 13, via the bores 12 and the ports 30. Thus the pressurized air serves to actuate the movement of the cylinder 15 and consequently the frame, and also serves to raise the frame away from the guides 10.
