Abstract

882,290. Cathode-ray tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. April 3, 1959 [April 9, 1958], No. 11417/59. Class 39(1) In a cathode-ray tube having an envelope comprising a cylindrical neck portion and an electron gun within the neck portion, the gun 5 comprises the unitary assembly of at least a grid and an Einzel lens electrode system 4, 2b, 2a 3 spaced apart and supported along the neck portion by longitudinally extending rods 6 of insulating material, e.g. of glass or ceramics, secured to radially extending portions 7 of the gun electrodes; the Einzel lens system comprises a pair of aligned tubular electrodes 3, 4 of relatively small diameter, each closed, except for a central aperture, at the end facing the other electrode of the pair, and a generally tubular central electrode 2a, 2b surrounding the ends of the aligned electrode pair 3, 4 and, in the space between these ends, being of enlarged diameter with its wall closely spaced from the wall of the neck portion of the tube envelope the rods 6 terminating in the neighbourhood of and being secured to the smaller diameter ends of the centre electrode. In assembly the gun is formed in two distinct halves terminating in parts 2a and 2b of the central electrode which are then joined together after separate support rods 6 have been secured to electrodes 3 and 2a and to electrodes 2b, 4 and those forming the electron gun.
