882,185. Firing mechanisms. DONNER, H. O. April 23, 1959, No. 13951/59. Class 92. A striker device for mortars or similar firearms has a cap 2 adapted to be mounted within the breach 1 end of the barrel, a spring- pressed firing pin 5 slidable in an axial bore of the cap 2, a member 8 surrounding the operative end of the firing pin 5, and spaces 15, 16, 17 whereby, during the discharge of the projectile, the pressure of the propellant gases can produce elastic collapse of the member 8 around the firing pin to obturate the axial bore against the ingress of gases. The member 8 is of bronze and the body piece 9 containing the bores 15, 16, 17 is connected to it at 12 and 13.
