Abstract

The artillery round has a chamber with a propellent body (9), which chamber has at least one gas outlet (8) in its base (6). The burning area of the propellent body and the outlet cross-sectional area are matched to one another in such a manner that the combustion pressure is less than 10 bar and exceeds the pressure prevailing at the base of the round by at most 0.5 bar. On the other hand, the propellent body is dimensioned such that it produces combustion gases over a considerable portion of the flying time. Such a construction results in the base suction being considerably reduced, as a result of which the range of the round can be considerably increased and the scatter considerably reduced. This construction is particularly suitable for shells. <IMAGE>
