Abstract

881,620. Remote signalling. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. March 24, 1959 [April 8, 1958], No. 11131/58. Class 40 (1). Movement of a plunger, due to dimensional changes of an object, rotates a spindle whose position is signalled to a remote indicator by a selsyn device or a potentiometer whose slider is coupled to the spindle. In the diagram movement of plunger 7 results in rotary motion of spindle 8 to which is coupled slider 9 of the potentiometer. Slider 9 is normally kept out of contact with winding 10 until a measurement is required when the slider is brought into contact with the winding by evacuating bellows 17 through pipe 27. Spindle 8 carries turbine blades 29 so that under the action of gas jets 30 or 31 the plunger may be advanced into contact with the object to be gauged or retracted to a fixed stop.
